SHINee's Vocal Review

Annyeong! Long time no see. Fuah, I've busy lately, sorry for no update. Well, in this post, as the title said, I will give reviews about SHINee's individual vocal ability. I'm not an expert in this kind of field, indeed. But I love to identify a person's voice. And please, whoever read this, no bashing. Though my bias are Onew and Key, I'll try as fair as possible. And again, it is just in my opinion, not an absolute score. Okay guys, check it out! :)

----------

Onew (Lee Jinki)

This guy, what can I say? Onew has a very very nice timbre. He has a smooth, slick voice, but at the same time it can be so deep and powerful. He's not only having a nice timbre, but also delivering every song he sings wholeheartedly. He sings both ballad and uptempo perfectly without losing the 'character' of his voice. By only listening to a couple line, you will surely recognize his voice. And the next point is, you will never get bored listening to his voice. He surely knows how to use his voice. But I think he needs to use his falsetto more often since he often cracks his voice because he's forcing his 'real' voice. But still, this guy has one of the most beautiful voice God has made. Curious with him? I recommend you to listen to his cover of James Ingram's Forever More and his duet with Kim Yun Woo, The Name I Loved.

Jonghyun (Kim Jonghyun)

As one of the golden voice in Korea, I think the 'bling bling' fits him very well. I really admire him for having such a nice range and a very powerful voice. I'm seriously a fan of his very very powerful falsetto. He's definitely one of the most powerful tenorist. But sometimes, he pulls his voice a little bit too much. Instead of making the song sounds good, it makes the listeners get tired of his voice. Though I'm a big fan of his voice, I have to admit, I can't listen to his voice for hours without getting tired. But, of course, there's a time when his voice is surely soft and amazing. And for those who want to listen to Jonghyun's voice, I recommend you to listen to Quasimodo and his duet with Onew, Please Don't Go. It definitely optimized his voice.

Key (Kim Kibum)

I LOVE THIS KID TO DIE. Key has an insanely gorgeous timbre. He has a pretty wide range too. Though his falsetto is not as powerful as Jonghyun's, he can hit the high notes comfortably with little difference intensity from the middle range. Key has the deeper voice with a deeper timbre comparing to Jjong's. His timbre is really contrast to Onew's smooth and slick one and Taemin's thinner voice. I do love listening him to sing ballads. He's definitely a master of ballads. But unfortunately, he barely gets line for ballad songs, since it is usually given to Jonghyun or Onew. And I have to say, among the three lead vocals in SHINee, I think he's the most persistent. Onew often cracks while Jonghyun sometimes fails at hitting high notes, but Key, his voice maintains a good power without ever screeching. One word for him: Almighty. Recommended song: Romantic and One or Love Pain.

Minho (Choi Minho)

First time, I thought this guy can't sing at all. Now, it has been pulled off. Though his technique is still, well let say, awful, but I bet this guy has a nice voice. Though as a rapper, he has a very deep voice, but when it comes to sing, I think his voice can be higher than Key's. All he has to do is improving his technique and SM should give him more lines (without taking others part, of course). I don't have many words to say since he is really really lack of part of singing. And I should recommend you to watch SHINee's cover of L-O-V-E. Minho did pretty well that time.

Taemin (Lee Taemin)

A very very smooth voice. Not a deep one like Onew, but this kid (since he's just a year older than me), seriously has a very smooth voice. Beside, his voice is also thin, so sometimes it sounds weak rather than smooth. I do think Taemin is a smooth version of Jjong. I think he is also tenorist just like Jonghyun. His voice is optimized in high notes, but sometimes, his voice is too fragile and causing him to be off tune. Though he's now have more lines, just like Minho, he needs to improve more techniques, esp from Jjong. Recommended song for his voice: One and his solo at The Muzit (I forgot the title of the song).

Well, that's all my opinion about SHINee's vocal ability. Again, do not bash. Do comment your opinion, I really want to know about it. See ya at next post! :)
